Changing behavior is difficult for many people.

Parents often come to therapy wanting to change their child's behavior.  What parents learn through our work together is that changing behavior is not mutually exclusive.  It involves the work of both the child and the parent.
Your Child's Action + Your Reaction = The Outcome
At San Diego Therapy Group, we use applied behavioral analysis (ABA) to provide support for clients who need to develop adaptive/functional skills and enhance socially significant behaviors.  The strategies we implement can help to:
  • Increase appropriate behaviors (e.g., communication, play/leisure skills, self-help skills, task completion, following directions).
  • Generalize behaviors across situations and environments
  • Reduce problem behaviors (e.g., aggression, noncompliance, tantrums).
Consistency and communication are crucial components in teaching parents ABA strategies. We will examine, in detail, the antecedents (causes) and consequences of a particular behavior and work to develop a behavior plan to decrease problem behaviors and increase adaptive skills. Parents are typically provided with specific practice that will contribute to not only their confidence in addressing problem behaviors, but to their child's overall adaptive functioning. Parents will learn skills to become more mindful of their reactions to their child's behaviors and how those reactions impact their relationship with their child.   We will explore how to set empathic limits with your child to help improve the parent child relationship.

"Between stimulus and responses, there is a space.  In that space lies our freedom and power to choose our response.  In our response lies our growth and freedom."  Victor Frankel
